Why is the new moon lying down in the southern hemisphere while looking like a comma sign in Scandinavia?

The curve points in the direction of the Sun. At the equator, the Sun is rises to generally overhead, or reasonably close to it, whereas in Scandinavia it's relatively low to the horizon.
