How can I repair rattan porch chairs which have been shredded by my cats?

The damage is mostly to the legs and top, not the seats. They leave the resin fake "rattan" alone. I don't have or want a scratching post. Is there a material to redo the ripped parts and maybe a paint that will deter them? HELP! Thank you!
